Four Steps for Completing the Enrollment Process

  1. Deciding about a tutor.  We highly recommend that your child has a JYMA tutor, which would include the weekly small-group tutorial session (usually on Fridays).  Some parents may instead elect to act as their child’s tutor (partly to save $20 per week).  Please read “The Role of the Tutor”, below.  (Note that no matter what you decide about tutoring, your child will be placed in student work group.)
  2. Fill out the SurveyScroll down to the bottom of this page, and fill out the survey to tell us all we need to know in order to assign the work groups.
  3. Payment.  After deciding about a tutor, you can choose one of the two payment buttons found below.  Payment is due on Monday, August 17.
  4. Welcome to JYMA.  Once you have completed the above steps, you will receive everything you need for the whole 8-week quarter, including links to the lectures, weekly assignments, and placement in a student work group.

And here’s an announcement:

  • Books. Except for fifth grade, the assignments are usually drawn from our workbooks.  Each PDF assignment includes a copy of the relevant pages from the workbook, as well as a copy of the answer key.  Therefore, it is not required that you purchase a copy of the workbook.  However, many children still prefer to have their own copy of the workbook.  If you wish, you may purchase the workbook here from our website bookstore.

The Role of the Tutor.  The responsibilities of the tutor are:

(Note that the meaning of the term “tutor”, as used here, is not just someone helping out a student who is “behind” or struggling, but rather, the tutor is an adult mentor who is helping to guide the student’s studies.  This is helpful for all students of all ability levels.)

  • Learning the material. The tutor needs to listen to the week’s two lectures, and master the content enough to be able to teach it to the student.
  • Monitoring student progress. The tutor needs to monitor the progress of each student in the tutorial group.  This includes looking over the student’s individual homework and group assignments (but not making corrections), answering the student’s questions, correcting tests, and writing progress reports at the end of each semester.
  • Tutorial sessions. The tutorial session (usually held on Friday) is led by the tutor. It allows for the students to ask questions, for the tutor to clarify the topics of the week, or for other material to be presented.  It is an opportunity to look back on the week, and for the student to gain some confidence before heading into the next week.
  • Class teacher. When an entire class from a school joins JYMA, the class teacher usually serves the role of the tutor.

JYMA Group Work Form for Individual Child

After filling out all fields and clicking on the “Submit” button (at the bottom of the page), you should see a message on the screen that reads: “Your message has been sent! Thank you for enrolling in JYMA.”  If you don’t get this message, then carefully check that all fields have been filled out correctly (the incorrect fields are outlined in red), and then click on “Submit” again.

Scheduling Constraints.
For each day below, please state the times (between 8am and 8pm in your time zone) when your child is NOT available. “Anytime” means you are willing to make anytime work!  (Note that some student work groups may meet on Thursday instead of Friday.)
